Are you A SMART COOKIE?

The theme for Friday Lab in Midtown this week is EDUCATION, and here are some #vocabulary & #idioms to get you in the mood for Lab. :-)

CRAM for an exam (study a lot of material in a short time)
  • Tom's cramming for his exam tomorrow.

ACE a test (do very well/get a 100% on a test)
A SMART COOKIE (an intelligent person)
  • Sally aced her test again. She's such a smart cookie!

KEEP IT DOWN (don't make a lot of noise)
PULL AN ALL-NIGHTER (Study/work all night)
  • Let's keep it down. John is pulling an all-nighter. He has to finish a huge project.

MAJOR IN (focus on a field of study)
  • Sue's majoring in engineering. Her sister Patty is majoring in political science.

HAND IN (submit; turn in)
  • The teacher asked his students to hand in their homework at the beginning of class.

Now try filling in the blanks below with the #vocabulary above. The answers are just under the dialog, but NO PEEKING!

Your choices are CRAM, ACE, SMART COOKIE, KEEP IT DOWN, PULL AN ALL-NIGHTER, MAJOR IN, HAND IN. Remember to put your answers in the correct grammatical form.

A: Paul is such a 1.______________. Did you know he graduated first in his class?
B: I had no idea! I remember once he told me he thought he was going to fail a test, but he actually 2._________ it!

B: We were in the same biology class last semester, and while some of us were late with our homework, he always 6._____________ his on time.
A: You were in a biology class? I thought you were studying engineering?
B: Oh, I haven't told you. I decided to 7.______________ biology because I might apply to medical school in the future.
A: Really? Good for you!

So, how well did you do? Don't forget to practice, and feel free to write your sentences below or on social media and tag them #ilovenylc.
