Enjoy the summer heat with a trip to the beach. Long Beach is easy to get to from the LIRR (the beach is a short walk from the train stop) and has great ocean swimming, a two-mile-long boardwalk, white sand, as well as a variety of bars and restaurants. Bring a towel, a swimsuit, sunscreen, and anything else you need for a day at the beach!

Meeting Time and Location:
Meet Adriane 9:30am at 7th Ave and 33rd Street in front of Borders Book Store. From Penn Station, we’ll take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to Long Beach. The trip is about 45 minutes long. The beach is three blocks away from the Long Beach train station.

Cost:
$19 (includes round trip LIRR ticket and admission to beach)

 on Governors Island


Saturday, July 24th
(rain date: Sunday, June 25th)

What: 
Governor’s Island is a great car-free public place for picnics and other outdoor activities. There will be a free mini-golf course, art installations, and other fun activities

Meeting place: 
In front of the Battery Maritime Building (10 South Street, next to the Staten Island Ferry in Lower Manhattan). Subway: 1 to South Ferry Station, 4/5 to Bowling Green Station, or R/W to Whitehall St. Station. Bus: M1 (weekdays only), M6, M9 and M15

Meeting time: 
Meet Adriane in front of the Battery Maritime Building by 10:30 am. From there, we’ll take the ferry (free) to Governor’s Island. The island closes at 7pm, but you can leave the island anytime before then.

Cost
The ferry, island, and mini-golf are all free. There are places to buy snacks and drinks. There is a bike rental (www.bikeandroll.com) on the island for $14/hour or $40 for four hours (or you can bring your own bike). 

Bring
Food for the picnic! (Adriane will bring the napkins, plates, and cutlery). Also bring any friends or family you’d like to invite, plenty of water, sunscreen, and anything else you might need for the day. Please don’t bring any glass containers, pets, or alcohol.
