CHILL should be October's Word of the Month!

When we see pumpkins around town, we know that fall is here! There's a CHILL in the air, and Halloween is on its way.
Are you ready to make a Jack-o'-lantern that will give passers by CHILLS?

Well, we're now well into October, and fall weather has definitely arrived. The temperatures have dropped and there's a chill in the air.
  • BE WELL INTO - not in the beginning anymore; almost in the middle
  • DROP - decrease
  • A CHILL - a coldness

Speaking of the word "chill," I'm sure you know we use it to talk about cold weather, right? Did you know we also use it to talk about relaxing or to describe something scary? With the temperatures dropping and with Halloween just around the corner, the word "chill" just might be the perfect word for October. What do you think? Let's make CHILL October's Word of the Month!
  • AROUND THE CORNER - very near; almost here

Goodbye summer, hello fall 2014!

All sorts of squashes, including pumpkins, at this supermarket in Brooklyn remind us that autumn is here!

Did you know today is the beginning of fall? If you're a fan of ASTRONOMY, you probably know that fall officially starts with the autumnal (fall) equinox, which this year happens at PRECISELY 10:29 p.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) today when the earth "straightens out" or isn't TILTED in any direction, giving both HEMISPHERES equal amounts of sunlight. As a result, today we'll have about the same lengths of day and night. Interesting?
  • ASTRONOMY - the study of the stars and planets
  • PRECISELY - exactly
  • TILTED - leaning to one side
  • HEMISPHERES - the northern and southern halves of the earth

This past Friday was the 2nd annual Fashion's Night Out in New York City. In this event, retailers open their stores at night to throw fabulous parties for fashionistas to shop and mingle.

Click here to read a NY Times article reporting about the exciting event.

Did you get to attend any of these parties this year?
